A powerful piece of work by Alva Gene Dexhimer (1931-1984). Alva lived in Central Missouri his entire life. He dropped out of school in the eighth grade due to his learning disabilities. After the death of his parents he lived in a trailer on his sisters property and made objects from found wood, using only a hammer and handsaw. These constructions were then placed in the yard in hopes that a passerby would purchase his work.
Using old found pieces of wood and an early metal bucksaw blade, this particular two-dimensional piece by Alva Gene can stand alone in any great art collection. It measures 27" height x 29" in length and is 5" wide at the base.
Mid 20th century.
